Suspected Active Military Member of Northern Guard

$

As a result of Yellow Vest Canada Exposed's efforts to bring attention to a far right concert hosted by one former and one (maybe) current member of the white nationalist Northern Guard, the mainstream press has taken an interest. For example Mack Lamoureux of Vice News Canada published a story on July 2 detailing the effort as well as the connection to a Canadian Combat Coalition rally occurring at the same time.

We've covered similar events such as this. Last year a group of Proud Boys, Northern Guard, Nouns of Odin, and other extremists planned on going to Hamilton ostensibly to support businesses in the community but was really an effort at self-promotion as well as to antagonize anti-fascists so they could be ambushed and assaulted.

These far right groups also seem to be military fetishists in how they both glorify the armed forces and attempt to emulate them with the ridiculous quasi-military gear which allows them to "play" soldier without actually ever having to put themselves in harms way; the III%ers are the most notorious, but they certainly aren't alone:

Now as bad as it is when they are playing soldier, a greater concern are those who are in the military who have been radicalized by right-wing extremism:

ARC has documented a few such instances in the past:

There's of course more.

And now we have another person to add to this list:

Yellow Vest Guelph Ontario Admin Calls for Weapon Use at Rally

The admin and organizer for the yellow vests in Guelph Ontario recently posted that he will be organizing a rally, and pressured his members to bring weapons.

Let's take a little look into the social media posting history of Danny Donovan.

As you can see, he posts the usual Islamophobic garbage. He also posts anti-LGTBQ material as well.

Threats like this need to be taken very seriously. Yellow vest rallies in Hamilton have been attended by people carrying weapons. In particular an attendee swung a telescopic baton at counter protestors.

Islamophobe and Racist Eric Brazau's History of Violence

This might be a bit dated, but ARC just received some information that makes it relevant again.

Back in July 2014, Eric Brazau entered a crowded subway car along with fellow bigot Ron Banerjee. His intention was to "debate" (read: harass and harangue) individuals on the car about the dangers of Islam and Muslims while Banerjee, acting as if he didn't know Brazau, took a video of the exchange:

Not long after, Brazau was arrested:

Cut to January 2015 when he was convicted of mischief, causing a disturbance, and breaching probation. He was sentenced to 9 months in jail but was released pending an appeal:

At the time of his conviction, Christine Blatchford wrote an opinion column for the "National Post" in which she seemed to mock the sentence and overly sensitive Torontonians. One part stands out for me:
Astonishingly in a province where those convicted of more serious offences regularly receive suspended sentences or house arrest, Mr. Brazau was denied bail and has been in custody since his arrest that day, July 29, or for five months and nine days.
Yeah, about that....

Brazau did appeal his sentence which was perhaps not surprisingly rejected. ARC received a link to a copy of that appeal where we learned that Eric Brazau has a criminal history that includes assaults, uttering threats, and use of a weapon that goes back more than 30 years:

So, maybe a long criminal history and a history of failing to comply with the conditions of his probation has something to do with the reason he was held in custody prior to his trial?

Just throwing that out there.

Suffice it to say ARC will be updating our "History of Violence" article very soon.

Sears and St. Germaine's sentencing delayed yet again

$

Here we are with yet another chapter in what seems like the never-ending saga of the James Sears/LeRoy St. Germaine sentencing hearing. Those of you who have stuck with me through this mess will recall that Sears and St. Germaine of Your Ward Newswere convicted of wilfully promoting hatred against women and Jews back in January. The sentencing hearing began on April 26th, and devolved quickly when Sears' delivered a truncated version of his 62 page allocution. Sears should have been sentenced on May 31st, but then he decided to fire his lawyer for, to use his words, "throwing the case." He had all sorts of grand plans for launching a constitutional challenge, among other things, now that he is self-represented, so I knew we were in for a rough ride on July 15th.

Unlike Sears' last appearance in April, I had no illusion that this would be the end, but I also didn't expect it to feel like a new beginning either.

Determined to "have his day in court," Sears compiled a 79 page submission, with a 29 page addendum, dealing mainly with what he perceives as violations of his Charter rights. Justice Blouin determined none of these had any merit, however, he was willing to entertain the possibility that Sears did not have a fair trial due to his lawyer, Dean Embry's, decision not to call any witnesses.

Blouin, who is set to retire at the end of August, is widely quoted as telling Sears and the court that:
“My overarching obligation is to ensure a fair trial. I’m allowing Mr. Sears an opportunity to satisfy me that this is an exceptional case and I should re-open this trial or declare a mistrial at this late date. [Sears has] made the argument that Mr. Embry basically threw the case. That’s an issue I’m going to have to decide.’’
Sears now has two weeks to put forward a list of potential witnesses, their credentials, and what they would add to the proceedings. According to Rosie DiManno of the Toronto Star, Sears intends to call Embry as a witness, along with "experts" in satire, and a former YWN columnist who is apparently an Ethiopian Jew. Blouin will then have to decide whether to reopen the case, declare a mistrial, or press on with sentencing.

The standard "I'm not a lawyer, but..." caveat applies here, however, it is my understanding that satire has only successfully been used as a defence in Canada for copyright issues. Other racists, including Gary Schipper from the Heritage Front days, have tried to lean on humour as a defence in the past, but without success. If Blouin does reopen the trial, I'm very interested to see how they determine who can be considered an expert in satire for this case, and whether anyone could possibly argue about Sears' intentions regarding his hate-filled rants in YWN without relying on a psych evaluation.

While this circus plays out, St. Germaine's sentencing is also up in the air.

St. Germaine, who is Metis, had his lawyer present the findings of his Gladue Report, which showed that due to the trauma suffered by his father, and the challenging upbringing St. Germaine experienced as a result, these factors should be taken into account for sentencing, and that alternatives to a custodial sentence should be considered. A source who was in attendance said that there was a discussion of having a Victim Offender Reconciliation Meeting, however, that has yet to be decided.

St. Germaine, who we learned has only a grade 8 education, and a criminal record from the 1980s for "break and enter, theft, assault causing bodily harm and assaulting a police officer," (DiManno), had an opportunity to deliver his own allocution. While I'm hoping to find more details, he appears to remain angry and unrepentant, and is quoted as saying:
“I believe in free speech. And I think I’ve done my due diligence in checking Mr. Sears’s material. Besides, there were only some 200 complaints made against the paper over the years, during which 6 million plus editions of the Your Ward News were distributed. If it offends people, for the number of people reading to the number being offended was a wide gap.”
There is some good news, however. St. Germaine has apparently decided to permanently cease publishing YWN and plans to disassociate himself from Sears. He presents such a mixed message of being both unrepentant and yet ready to move on that it is hard to predict what the judge will finally decide with regards to sentencing.

Clearly, Justice Blouin will have a lot to consider prior to reconvening on August 1st. He is probably quite looking forward to retiring, given the headaches this case is causing. Hopefully he will be motivated to finally sentence these two, since most people, including me, would like this circus of a case to finally end. Sears' stalling tactics and theatrics have an impact on the identifiable groups and individuals targeted by the hate rag:
Sears and St Germaine have been found guilty. It is my hope that before the summer is over, those targeted by YWN will find some closure and peace.

Canadian Far Right Celebrate Donald Trump's Most Recent Example of Overt Racism

$

In 1947, a short film was produced by the American War Department warning Americans to be wary of racist demagogues and the dangers they pose to democratic institution:

The film was produced in response to horrors of a global war still fresh in the memories of the American public in which a man who had been a failure through most of his life but who had a gift for public speaking and manipulating public was able to achieve power in part by dividing citizens of his adopted country into Aryan übermensch and untermensch who's citizenship and humanity were stripped from them.

Now 71 years later, another demagogue is using (not reading because he proudly doesn't read) the same playbook:

In some ways this isn't a surprise. American politicians have for years used racist dog whistles to rile up their supporters, the Southern Strategy and Ronald Reagan's reference to "welfare queens" being two cases. And Donald Trump has a long history of racial animus; the refusal to rent to African-American tenants in the 1970s for which he and his father, the Central Park jogger case, his claims in 1989 that African-Americans had an advantage over whites, a 1991 book quoting him as suggesting Black Americans were lazy and that the only people he wanted counting his money were Jews whick also plays on stereotypes, his attacks on Native Americans during an effort to prevent tribal competition with him in the gambling industry, his birther attacks on President Obama, his claim that a judge couldn't be objective in a case he was being sued in because of his Mexican-American heritage, his efforts to stop Muslims from entering the United States and the lie that Arab-Americans were seen celebrating the 9/11 attacks, and so many more.

This was a man who, immediately upon entering the presidential race in 2015, labeled Mexican migrants as rapists and criminals, though he did allow that there MIGHT be some good people.

The racial animus is what in part attracted the bulk of Trump's supporters. When it was reported that he didn't want immigrants from "shit hole countries" his supporters began parroting that line while at the same time denying that he said it. So it can't be at all surprising when these same supporters embrace the overtly racist "go back where they came from" line while denying that it is racist but also assuming that the four congresswomen are foreign and Muslim (two of the four are) because of the colour of their skin.

The Canadian far-right who admire Trump have embraced this same xenophobic and exclusionary rhetoric:

Kevin "The Poodle" Johnston, fresh off being on the receiving end of a multi-million dollar defamation judgement for his attacks on a Muslim-Canadian businessman for which he is unrepentant and doubling down isn't the only such example:

Similar posts can be found on the Yellow Vests Canada, Northern Guard, and a host of other far-right Facebook groups. Some of the most vile of the rhetoric can be found on the profile of Georges Hallak, a Quebec racist, Islamophobic, theocrat who ARC has discussed in detail and in passing in past articles:

Hallak is a huge fan of Trump and of course embraces the same xenophobia about immigrants and refugees despite himself being an immigrant from Lebanon:

The response to this post might be the most telling regarding the character of the far right:

It is hard to get through to people who believe that Donald Trump has class, but I do digress.

The term "stochastic terrorism" has been used to describe Trump's tweet and other similar examples targeting political opponents, critics, and those he feels are not sufficiently loyal to himself. Stochastic terrorism has been defines as, "the public demonization of a person or group resulting in the incitement of a violent act, which is statistically probable but whose specifics cannot be predicted."

Given the reaction of the far-right in the United States, Canada, and elsewhere, it seems to be an apt term:

Hallak and his friends also gets in on the dehumanizing and dangerous rhetoric....

.... while throwing in some Canadian content:

The "non-citizens" in the Canadian government are naturalized citizens who aren't white, thus are not and never will be truly "Canadian" in the minds of these posters.

And if Trump's xenophobia is criticized by the Canadian prime minister, the "patriots" on the III% Alberta militia page have an answer.

Threaten to break away from the country and kill the prime minister in support of the racist foreign leader:

Of course, we know that if Trump's tweets do have their (I presume) desired effects....

....we already know the same people profiled in this article will claim it as a false flag.

Keean Bexte, Associated With Members/Supporters of ID Canada Hate Group, Harassing Congresswomen Attacked By Trump

$

I decided to follow up the article I posted yesterday concerning the Canadian far-right's celebration of Trump's overtly racist Tweet attacking four Congresswomen of colour (followed by a rally in North Carolina where he reveled in the crowd chanting "send them home!"before lying and claiming he didn't like it and tried to stop it despite video evidence showing the opposite) with a little more Canadian content on the subject.
NOTE 1: Wait just a little while, and Trump can be relied on to be completely unreliable as he reverses his reversal and defends the racist chant now.
Phew! Holy run-on sentence Batman!

Anywho, on to the point....

Once again, meet one of Rebel Media's latest propagandist personalities Keean Bexte. Before I get into the meat of the issue, let's address the elephant in the room.

Yes, he actually chose to look like this:

I mean.... damn dude!

Your mother let you out of the house looking like that, did she? I mean, mine loves me enough to tell me that if I sported that haircut like that I should probably just shave it all off because I would look absolutely ridiculous.

And do you actually own another t-shirt? I legit looked at a number of photos of you and this one was rather ubiquitous:

Is it your dress t-shirt? You're "report'n" t-shirt? Did you loose a bet that requires you to wear it continuously for a year? Do you think that t-shirt is the source of your strength like Sampson's hair (sorry, I know that hair is sort of a touchy subject). Do you wear the t-shirt to prevent nipple chafing? Does it promote nipple chafing (I won't judge your kink, man)?

THESE are the questions the people really want answers to Crutchie!

If you know Bexte, you do so likely for one or more of a number of reasons. He was a member of the Calgary Wildrose executive who was involved in some Roger Stone-esque dirty trickery in his effort to support Jason Kenney's campaign for leadership of the United Conservative Party. He managed to get a resolution at the Conservative policy convention eliminating birthright citizenship in Canada to pass before leaving the party in a huff because he didn't get his way over dairy products. He is suspected to have been one (if not the one) to have promoted a men's rights "documentary" by claiming that everyone knows that "feminism is cancer" and then create another online persona to take the blame for the email.

Those who read this blog are also aware of his links to Fireforce Ventures (an online store exposed by Ricochet which glorified the racist regime of the former Rhodesia and made liberal use of racist epithets) as well as a number of individuals associated with both Alberta conservative campus politics and the hate group ID Canada (formerly Generation Identity Canada):

With a pedigree like that, it was only a matter of time before Ezra Levant, who has jumped started the careers of alt-right and alt-light figures such as white nationalist Faith Goldy, propagandist Lauren Southern, hate group founder Gavin McInnes, career criminal Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, former British Nationalist Party's Jack Buckby, serial liar Jack Posobiec, and Laura "My Life Is Meaningless Without Twitter" Loomer amongst others:
As a Rebel Media personality, Keean has recently been tasked with covering American politics by which I mean harassing Democratic politicians. Here for example is his hard hitting report (ie badgering) of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar which also appeared on another virulently Islamophobic website late last month:

The whole "Omar married her brother to commit immigration fraud" slander seems to have begun in 2016 though it was quickly and definitively debunked:

That of course hasn't stopped the likes of Bexte and others from continuing to promote this slander (one can see it continually being referred to in screen shots posted in the article yesterday) as evidenced by the past several days:

NOTE 2: More on Avi Yemini who Bexte retweeted:
  •

In the world of racist misogynists like Bexte, a woman (and in this case a woman of color) refuses to talk to or acknowledge him is all that is the real crime.

In fact this really brings me to the main point of the article here. As Canadian Trump supporters, members of Rebel Media have been acting as one of this country's primary propaganda avenues. Bexte himself is a fan of Trump and after the current occupant of the Oval Office posted his racist tweet Bexte decided to jump on the train:

The question he continues to ask in the video is of the "have you stopped beating your wife?" variety.  Bexte, a person for whom acting in bad faith seems as natural as breathing, isn't at all interested in an answer. He wants a reaction as evidenced by this exchange with journalist Emily Leeham whom he berated along men who had accompanied him at a Linda Sarsour speaking engagement in Winnipeg. The telling moment occurs at about the 1:00 mark:

Like Ms. Leeham, the four Congresswomen dealt with Bexte in the best way possible (and really, he should be used to women ignoring him by this point in his life). He's also disingenuous as hell since he himself makes it clear he's prefectly fine with violence and threats of violence as illustrated here when he defends border agents who posted rape and murder fantasies about Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on social media:

Bexte after all really isn't a journalist:

He's an agenda-driven propagandist who already has a narrative that he's going to push:

Now because Rebel Media is, in this writers ever so humble opinion, less a journalist endevor than it is primarily a business profiting from the anger and hate it stokes, Bexte and Ezra Levant (if not Levant personally than as part of Rebel Media's business model) have as they do bought a domain name and created a petition where the supporters can (a) impotently sign to voice their anger based on half truths and lies which won't actually accomplish anything but will make the signer feel as if he or she is doing something concrete and (b) provide Rebel Media marketers with personal information and email address that can be used to contact the signers and solicit donations.... allegedly. And of course there also has to be some sort of public stunt involved too:

He also received a visit from former (if short-live in his tenure) Rebel alum Jack Posobiec:

It should be noted that Posobiec is a nutbar who:

Let that fact sink in there.

The campaign Bexte is engaged on is patently dishonest, but it does conform with the current toxic political environment on the right and as such will get an audience in those circles:

When should we start taking bets on when Bexte starts going down the same path as Goldy?

Just kidding. He's already well on his way:

Guest Article: The Canadian Far-Right an Eco's Hallmarks of Fascism

$

I had been planning on writing an article for the blog detailing Umberto Eco's fourten hallmarks of fascism and even started gathering some relevant screenshots (some of which I have included). However last month I saw that Twitter user Seussterhoff had already posted a series of tweets providing an outline of the hallmarks. As such I asked Seussterhoff if they would be willing to write an article on the topic for the blog and more fully flesh out the connection between the far right groups ARC, Yellow Vests Canada Exposed, the Canadian Anti-Hate Network, and others have been reporting on.

I would very much like to thank Seussterhoff for this article; if you aren't following this Twitter account, you really should be.

*    *    *

The alt-right is like a box of chocolates - or, in the words of Dr. Umberto Eco, ""fascism was a fuzzy totalitarianism, a collage of different philosophical and political ideas, a beehive of contradictions." Therefore, in the spirit of tarring the alliance/cross-contamination between PEGIDA, Yellow Vests, hate preachers, Wolves/Soldiers of Odin, Northern Guard, and their good buddies with the same brush, I present Eco's fourteen hallmarks of fascism.

Eco, for the record, grew up in Mussolini's Italy. He got to know fascism firsthand. I've often found his fourteen points a useful reference for analyzing groups and movements that are prone to going off the rails. And I see every one of those fourteen points, to some extent, in the Canadian alt-right.

References: Eco's 1995 original (partially paywalled); OpenCulture's summary; Paul Bausch's point-form summary.

My thanks to the good people of ARC Collective for inviting me to expand on my Twitter thread about this. And while the screencaps may not be the world's best or most pointed examples of all the points below, the vast majority of them came from less than half an hour of casual browsing on the Facebook page of Derek Storie, a prominent Yellow Vest.

#1: The cult of tradition....

...."nourished by...syncretistic, occult elements."

I've got a pagan friend who's prone to rage about all the ways the alt-right has appropriated and twisted Norse and pagan heritage - throwbacks to romanticized days when men were MEN and so forth. The iconography is everywhere:

Note one-eyed Odin, a reference to sacrificing for hidden truths. Ravens, incidentally, reference similar ideas, with a slant toward uncovering secrets and omniscience.

'Syncretism,' for context, is about blending the appealing bits of various cultures and traditions. Observe:

Middle is a Norse valknut symbol, with as many historic and modern interpretations as you can shake a stick at. Very watered-down, basically meaningless apart from its occasional association with white supremacy. Top right is Norse. Top left, in the words of my heathen symbologist friend, is a "Medieval Christian Icelandic 'runesign' most neo-pagans don't realize is Christian." Bottom is a Celtic triskelion. The logo is just one big syncretic mishmash. Neo-pagan or pseudo-Norse iconography like this is all over their social media.

And that's only one small example of their veneration for skewed tradition and heritage. Think about how many of them fly the Red Ensign, Canada's old flag from colonial times, and what they mean by that.

Think, too, what they mean when they try to appropriate and possess the Canadian flag: they're trying to radicalize it as a symbol and position their critics and targets as un-Canadian. Cult of tradition all over the place.

#2: Modernism is the enemy. "The Enlightenment, the Age of Reason, is seen as the beginning of modern depravity."

Paul Fromm with Maxime Bernier: Pleased With PPC Immigration Platform

So rather than engaging in the usual long-winded lead up I engage in, let's just get to the point on this one:

Yep, white supremacist Paul Fromm, seen here with Max Bernier happily patting him on the back, is pleased with the PPC platform regarding immigration.

Though he's not as happy that a former PPC candidate was removed for merely posting the link to a white supremacist group with ties to terrorism:

Fromm has been a fixture on the far right in Canada since the late 1960s and has associated with such groups as the Heritage Front, Volksfront, the KKK, American Front, and the recently illegal terrorist group Blood & Honour/Combat 18 (among others):

Bernier himself has seemingly decided to throw his lot in with extremists including the Northern Guard:

Drama With Pat & Jay

$

Anyone who pays any amount of attention to the far-right knows that it is rife with infighting and drama. The Yellow Vests Canada movement is no exception to this rule.

It seems that Pat King is on the outs with Jay Riedel, Kenny Winsor, his ex-girlfriend Christy, and basically half of the movement.

While he's prone to melodramatic live feeds where he yells and cries, this was apparently a whole new level. We were unable to snag a copy of it before it was deleted (mid-broadcast) but those who saw it have marveled at it's ridiculousness.

During this feed, King reportedly went off on his ex-bff Jay Riedel, leader of the Estevan SK Yellow Vests, resulting in in Riedel leaving the page:

I wonder what they did with their Five Finger Death Punch themed friendship bracelets. Maybe they can auction them off to raise money "for the cause."

Image result for broken best friends

This also caused division within their followers:

Apparently, King accused Christy of being a stalker and "antifa," so naturally she had to defend herself, because she's a good person who isn't racist.

Huh...

Christy also went live on Facebook to defend her honour. I've included some highlights:

The one where King tries to pick up his girlfriend's sister's friend on Tinder

The one where King uses his girlfriend's biracial children for cred

The one where  King lies about how he lost his leg

The one where King lies some more

The one where King joins in

Here is the full video.

The responses to the video show a number of people fed up with King's grifting, including Kenny Winsor of NL Media, and Carl-Edward Fleury

As an aside, if you are trying to brand yourself "not racist," then Fleury is the last person you want to hang around.

King showed up in the comments:

There were allegations of all kinds, including stealing money and lying about tax returns:

How he lost his leg:

And the hilarious declaration that he no longer has control of his own Facebook page, Rollin with Pat & Jay.

In any event, if Christy ever does want to be antifa, and give us intel on King she says she has, and really give to him good, she can get in touch with us.

UPDATE: It turns out that Kenny Winsor was able to save King's video prior to it being deleted, and he provided a clip to Christy Marie. There's also rumours that Pat King's real name is not Pat King.

Anti-LGTBQ and Islamophobic Extremist Chris Vanderweide is REALLY Good at Alienating People

$

I know there's a tendency for ARC to highlight the rampant dysfunction and infighting of the far-right groups we cover on the blog (as our friends with Yellow Vests Canada Exposed did in our last article) and as a result we've been accused of being a bit of a gossip rag.

And to that I answer gleefully, guilty as charged!

This past weekend Chris Vanderweide (who has been is facing charges stemming from assaults he committed at a Pride event in Hamilton in June) "organized" what he referred to as an anti-bullying protests in Kitchener in which he called people who have historically been oppressed, criminalized, assaulted, and murdered bullies because they and allies are demanding equal rights and standing up to the actual bullies:

The person is waving a flag. Vanderweide thinks that constitutes bullying, but not protesting a Pride event, shouting at the participants that they are deviants who are going to Hell, and then assaulting them.

A bit of projection methinks?

And he considered his rally to have been a huge success!

Except....

Hmmm, members of ID Canada and the Canadian Nationalist Party, eh?

Okay, a few more than this showed up, but not really many more. Among those who might be reasonably considered to have no-showed was Vanderweide himself. Reports are he showed up late, shook a few hands and took some pictures, and then left after only a few minutes.

You see, with all the far-right "media" attention....

.... Vanderweide has become much more concerned with self-promotion.

By this past weekend for example, Chris Vanderweide has already had his "more popular than Jesus" moment when all he has done is assault people with a helmet whereas at least John Lennon had already written "Ticket to Ride", "Yesterday", and "Can't Buy Me Love" by that point in his career:

Holy raging ego Batman!

But in this post we also see some of the cracks in his reputation that Vanderweide is himself helping to open up by his own arrogance; an attitude of being bigger than the movement he is a part of, dismissing of other groups and individuals as insufficient vehicles for someone as important as himself, and his own narcissism which is a word that I sincerely doubt he can pronounce much less understand but which accurately describe a man who hasn't accomplished much in his life but who now feels entitled to adulation.

Among the early critics was one Anne Morrison who leads the Wolves of Odin, one of the offshoots of the Soldiers of Odin because these people are particularly original or creative thinkers:

Ah, the sharing of dirty laundry part of the show!

That's my favorite part!

The comments were most enlightening in that they expand on the characters, both intentionally an unintentionally, of everyone involved in this sordid affair:

Provincial and federal time in prison for assault and conspiracy to commit murder.

And yet these "patriots" unironically accuse counter-protesters of being dangerous criminals.

More projection.

Morrison finishes with reference to Vanderweide's appearance with Kevin "Poodle" Johonstone:

And that is where it ended.... except that Vanderweide decided it hadn't ended and that he had to get in the last word:

You want screen shots of private messages airing dirty laundry? Vanderweide sees Morisson's three and raises 53:

I'm just going to post all of the screen shots Vanderweide uploaded to Facebook before I continue posting the comments that were left by others on his profile, but to summarize:
  1. These people are weird as hell.
  2. Despite Vanderweide's claims he exposes the Nouns of Odin, no one looks good in these exchanges.
This is going to take a while. Feel free to get a drink, a snack, and maybe use the bathroom before you get started:

Your Ward News Sentencing Update: Make it stop already!

The victims are tired. The journalists are tired. The judge and crown attorneys are no doubt tired. I'm tired of writing about it, and heck, I think even the racists are tired. But the sentencing hearing for Your Ward News' editor James Sears, and publisher, LeRoy St. Germaine, has been delayed, yet again, while Sears is busy "absorbing all this."

I wish I was joking.

It's hard to believe that they were convicted of promoting hatred against Jews and women back in  January and have managed to drag out sentencing through April, May, and July.

Sears with supporters on April 26th (that's Gus Stefanis on the left).

Now we're into August. On the first of the month, Sears and St. Germaine were in court with every sort of excuse and delay tactic at the ready. For St. Germaine, who is Metis, the sticking point is the offer of a sentencing circle where he would have the opportunity to engage in a mediated dialogue with his victims. Justice Blouin believes that a discussion in a "controlled, thoughtful arena" would be beneficial, however, St. Germaine doesn't want to do it if he has to apologize up front.

Again, I wish I was joking.

Sears, who is now self-represented and is trying to have his case reopened, was supposed to have his affidavit and list of potential expert witnesses ready for Justice Blouin, but of course he had neither. Instead, this man who loves to hype his intelligence and wit complained that academics were very difficult to reach over the summer months and that he is not a lawyer. He (surprise!) needs more time.

Justice Blouin, who is retiring at the end of August, admits he has never dealt with an application to re-open a case, which he said is an unusual procedure. It is certainly not made any easier given Sears' decision to self-represent. In an effort to avoid another failed court appearance, Blouin gave Sears deadlines in advance to ensure all documentation is complete and submitted beforehand. He has until August 8th to submit an affidavit and obtain one from his former lawyer, Dean Embry. Sears then has until the 15th to produce a list of witnesses complete with their qualifications and what he feels they could add to the case. Court will resume on August 22nd for both Sears and St. Germaine.

Those who have been at the forefront of this case are not pleased. Lisa Kinsella said on Twitter that while she recognizes that the Judge is trying to ensure that the sentences, once they are finally handed out, cannot be contested, these delays are hurting the victims:

For Sears at least, publishing hateful rhetoric in Your Ward News is not new behaviour. In 2009, footage of Sears taken for a documentary film about his alter-ego, Dimitri the Lover, has him admitting to "banging [his] patients" and shows him harassing and groping women in downtown Toronto.

He claims that his paper acts as a "safety valve" for angry men, but in reality, it encourages more of the same hatred and objectification we have seen from Sears for decades. The victims in the Sears/St. Germaine case deserve justice, and they deserve it at more than the glacial pace we have seen so far in this sentencing hearing. It is well past time that they face the consequences of their actions, and I hope that August 22nd will bring some much needed closure and relief.

.... and this isn't the set-up for a joke, though one might suggest the subjects are a bit of a joke in their own right.

Back in November I wrote an article in which it was noted that Ezra Levant provided press credentials to a man involved in a number of hate groups, who had just gotten off house arrest after being convicted of assaulting a former girlfriend, and who would in the new year make news for harassing members of an Edmonton-area mosque:

Also at this event was John Carpay of the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms, ostensibly a grassroots organization promoting freedom of speech but which seems to be yet another AstroTurf group promoting a right-wing agenda.

Last year Mr. Carpay, a close associate of now Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, faced criticism for comparing the rainbow flag used by the LGBTQ community and supporters to the Soviet and Nazi flags not once...

.... but at least twice:

And while Kenney did comment on the issue, he didn't boot Carpay from the UCP as had been demanded:

Kenney's alt-right Rebel Media contingent also came to Carpay's defence:

Cut to June 2019. Carpay's Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms was having their second annual banquet and "free speech" award ceremony. Who was the first recipient of the George Jonas Freedom Award you ask?

Of COURSE it would be Mark Steyn!

In any case, true to form the second annual recipient of the award was the equally noxious Christie Blatchford (her article about Rehtaeh Parsons alone should inform readers about the lack of human decency that she has). The award was given to her in the middle of June though ARC didn't learn about it until this Sunday when Paul Fromm posted this photograph to his Facebook profile:

After Being Shoved Tarek Fatah Strikes White Nationalist and Faith Goldy Supporter Derek Harrison With Cane At Bernier's PPC Immigration Speech

Late last month Max Bernier pledged that if elected his government would reduce immigration to Canada to no more than 100,000 to 150,000 though given the parameters he sets out one would be hard pressed to see how this number would be achieved so the actual number would be far lower. This despite his claim in the Fall of 2018 when speaking to the leader of the Canadian Nationalist Party (read: Nazi) Travis Patron that his numbers would be in the 250,000 to 300,000 range.

Of course white supremacists such as Patron were thrilled:

Patron isn't the only white nationalist/supremacist happy with this policy update:

But not everything was peaches and cream in Mississauga where Bernier would make his speech on immigration. Just prior to the event there was a bit of a donnybrook involving Sun "journalist" Tarek Fatah a far-right YouTuber and Yellow Vester Derek Harrison. And just as I felt about the McGregor v. Mayweather fight, this is one where I was sort of hoping for a double knockout:

So much for quiet dignity, eh?

But wait a moment, I'm getting a bit ahead of myself. I haven't yet introduced readers to Derek:

Meet Derek Harrison, also known as "Derek Rants" on YouTube. I haven't really gone out of my way to keep track of Harrison though I've been aware of him for a while. He has appeared on Kevin Johnston's YouTube channel helping to spread conspiracy theories, attended a couple of anti-immigration rallies though he has noted their diminishing return, and has been a supporter of Faith Goldy including working on her mayoral campaign.

Harrison has his own channel on YouTube to which he adds content regularly though the themes are generally consistent. I'll include a few representative videos.

An ardent opponent of socialism, he expresses his desire for the American government to nationalize social media so they can be sued to deplatforming people like Faith Goldy and Kevin Goudreau suggesting that the Canadian Anti-Hate Network would be responsible for violence that those kicked off social media would engage in.... because.... you know, personal responsibility and crap:

He engages in racial pseudoscience regarding the IQ of non-Europeans:

Thinks that they should start a petition to get the government to declare "antifa" a terrorist organization mainly because the racists are consistently outnumbered. Also engages in conspiracy theories about Muslims in Fort Mac, claims 700,000 Somalis will be in Canada by the end of the year, and suggests sabotage of a pipeline by Muslims claiming that pipelines don't just blow up because he has smoked near gas leaks and nothing happened then.... meaning that Derek is an ideal candidate for a future Darwin award and a potential all star pick for someone's dead pool:

His Live Streams are replete with conspiracy theories, homophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, and racism:

Far Right Infighting Part ∞: Ron Banerjee vs. Goldy Supporters

$

So one of the bigger stories in the world of Canadian far-right personalities was that Faith Goldy willingly gave up on Twitter to spend more time in thoughtful contemplation. However this might be more meaningful if (a) I was convinced she will stay off Twitter and (b) didn't have nearly half a dozen other social media avenues through which she can continue to be an awful human being:

Goldy has become polarizing even for members of the far right. There are those out there who venerate her as a sort of virgin "Madonna of the Rocks" figure and those who came to loathe her for"selling out by trying to appeal to "the ethnics" during her Toronto mayoral campaign; her alleged relationship with Richard Spencer might have answered the virgin part.

I'm here all week folks! Try the veal and make sure you tip your server!

In any case, we have an instance now where people have taken a firm side on the argument.

Despite his recent humiliation and groveling apology, Rob Banerjee still has to Ron Banerjee. He's still active in anti-Muslim protests and his Hindu nationalism has perhaps become even more overt of late.

He also continues to style himself as Canada's #1 Trump fan and defender:

When Faith Goldy was critical of Indian and Chinese immigrants in some of her last Twitter posts, well, Banerjee went on the attack using Trump as a hustification. This resulted in an extended argument by a few others but especially one Ryan Walker who I've seen posting on numerous extremist Facebook groups

Now this thread was quite mild compared to what came later as Walker posted this on Banerjee's wall:

Yep, 220 comments.

I'm not about to re-post ALL of them, however the ones I will post are instructive. To summarize Banerjee continues to troll, write about the superiority of Hindus and Hindu culture, attack Muslims, and claim that women find him desirable. Ryan Walker and his supporters continue to state that non-Europeans need to "go home", quote white supremacists such as William Pierce, echo Trump's language ("go back where you come from" and "shithole countries"), hint at a violent "purge" of non-European Canadians as being imminent, and then threaten to find and harm Banerjee who bravely provides them with an obviously false address claiming that he's not afraid of them.

It really is quite the show:

Atomwaffen-Linked Extremist in Las Vegas Arrested: Connection to Barrie, ON Man

A Las Vegas security guard was arrested this past Friday in relation to a plot to attack a number of targets including synagogues and a bar that he believed served primarily the LGTBQ community in the city. The arrest came during the aftermath of two mass shootings in the United States, one of which was linked to white supremacist extremism and which resulted in the deaths of 22 people in El Paso, Texas, and the rise of far right domestic terrorism not just in the United States but world wide (an attack on an mosque which was inspired by the murders in Christchurch and El Paso occurred today in Norway though thankfully no one died).

The man arrested in Las Vegas, Conor Climo, had been in the news a few years ago when he was profiled by local media. He was engaged in a one-person, heavily armed, "patrol" of a Las Vegas neighborhood:

Climo was communicating with individuals associated with Atomwaffen Division (AWD), a violent hate group that has already been linked to at least five murders in the United States. AWD also has a presence in Canada:

Recently propaganda linked to an AWD affiliated group, The Base, was located in Manitoba and Saskatchewan:

However there's also another interesting link between Climo and Canada.

Posting under the username "B1488" Climo was active primarily in the Traditionalist Worker Party server. Using the handle "B1488" Climo was active from April 11 to September 5, 2017 posting a total of 2,766 times.

However at this point for some reason he was unable to continue using this handle. On September 18, Climo began posting under his new username "Sir88":

It was while using this handle, which was active from September 18, 2017 to February 11, 2019 that Climo became acquainted with Lukas (Luke) Danford who posted on Discord in the Traditionalist Worker Party as "Tarnfurt":

ARC has written about twice Danford before. The incident being referenced in Danford's introduction to the other members of the server above was the event that Kevin "No Show" Goudreau organized where he not surprisingly no-showed. Danford on the other hand did show up and, well.....

We also learned that Danford was active on 8chan where he wrote about his participation in Faith Goldy's anti-immigration protest:

Getting back to the interaction between Climo and Danford. On the same day that Danford (posting as "Tarnfurt") joined the Traditionalist Worker Party's Discord server, a man shooting out of his hotel room into a crowd of people at a country music concert killed 58 individuals (note that the Discord chat indicates it is October 2 while the shooting occurred October 1, but this might be due to the location of the server perhaps?). This act resulted in a lengthy discussion which Climo (Sir88), Danford (Tarnfurt), and others speculate that the shooter was an antifa supporter, claim it was a false flag to take weapons, and the possibility of violent retribution against perceived enemies:

Peace Bond Issued Against Kevin Goudreau Who Probably Complicated His Life Even Further Without Actually Realizing It

Why are the pretty ones so dumb?

Well okay, perhaps "pretty" isn't an apropos descriptor for Kevin or Lily?

Back in June Blood and Honour/Combat 18 was declared to be outlawed terrorist organizations and thus banned in Canada. Not long after, the folks on Stormfront, including Goudreau, began to post furiously about the injustice of it all:

One of my favorite parts of the thread is "Cydonia" whining about how the designation is racist against white people:

Sure.

I mean there were literally jihadist terrorist groups mentioned as also being banned in the same document.

And there is already an extensive list in Canada of terrorists affiliated with all sorts of extremist views.

But you keep crying persecution there Cydonia!

Also of interest is a person who once was featured quite heavily on the blog at one point when he was associated with the Aryan Guard and Blood and Honor but who had fallen a bit off my radar:

Bill Noble would like to suggest that the folks with Blood & Honour were persecuted, innocent, little lambs, however he seemed to know a great deal about the propensity for violence in the hate group as evidenced by the secrete chat with an administrator for the Blood and Honour International Forum:

Noble is referring to the attempted murder of Tyler Sturrup via pipe bomb that Kyle McKee and an underage accomplice were implicated in. Though attempted murder charges against McKee were eventually dropped (he was convicted of possession of bomb making materials) it seems clear that Noble was much more aware of McKee's involvement than he had let on.

Incidentally when I originally posted the screen shot about, it resulted in a rather robust discussion:

Marc Lemire Out in Hamilton

Right to the end, Lemire continued to deny his long-time involvement with the Heritage Front, involvement that ranged from simple membership early on, work on the hate group's website and later hosting it and numerous other hate sites, and finally the leadership of the hate group. This is all outlined in "Marc Lemire: A Summary of Information" that includes links to article written about Lemire's involvement in organized hate.

While the removal of Lemire is positive, there are still a lot of questions regarding his employment and why he appears to have been protected by Hamilton government officials. We also still have questions about his access to sensitive information and whether that information could have been shared with his fellow travelers.

Everyone else is talking about Talya Davidson, so I figured we should, too

On August 12th, 28-year-old Toronto resident, Talya Davidson, was videotaped hurling racist insults and spitting on a man in Nathan Phillips Square while holding a sign supporting CPC leader, Andrew Scheer. She was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of assault and 3 counts of assaulting a police officer.

The video, taken by her victim, Farhan Rana, quickly went viral and many people condemned the behaviour, including Scheer himself.

However, people quickly realized something wasn't right. When they dug into her history, it became clear she did not have the type of social media footprint one would expect of an overt racist. Davidson, who is originally from South Africa, seems to have an affinity for Latin American cultures. She claims to have studied at both the University of Guelph and UBC, worked as a journalist in Guadalajara, and has an interesting blog of stories based on her life and travels. She recently participated in a literary event hosted by Carolyn Bennet, and has a YouTube channel of her efforts to learn the guitar.

As eagerly reported by The Post Millennial, (more on them later), Davidson declares her political interests as being substantially left of centre on her couchsurfing profile.

Judging by Davidson's accomplishments, she is smart and driven. At the age of 25, she opened a Venezuelan restaurant called El Arepazo with her then boyfriend, Luis Vega, in Kensington Market. It did quite well for a while and even won a Now Magazine award in 2017.

Vega, however, was a bit of a hothead and got into the news for his own viral video of assaulting a graffiti artist outside his restaurant in 2015. Apparently he was attempting to make a citizen's arrest.

In addition to assault, he also decided to badmouth his suppliers online, and at one point used Talya's Now Magazine account to do so. This comment garnered a response claiming that Vega is homophobic and that anyone who is LGBTQ, or considers themselves an ally, should boycott El Arepazo. Davidson did not appreciate all of this and asked Now to remove Vega's comment.

The most controversial post I found of hers was another Now comment where she compares the hijab to a bra. My first take on it was admittedly not favourable, but upon reflection I can see that while it is awkward, it wasn't intended to cause harm.

So, how does a bright, driven, left-leaning person who is concerned with her social media footprint end up hurling racist insults and writing stuff like this on Facebook?

As expected by many, Davidson was ordered by the court to have a psychiatric evaluation at CAMH, and for the moment, that is the extent of the answers the public has about the case.

Certain media outlets -- mainstream and otherwise -- and racist extremists jumped on this story between the video going viral and Davidson's transfer to CAMH. What follows are but a few screenshots of an avalanche of stomach-churning Tweets from people who were determined to mould the story to their liking.

First up is Paul Fromm. Before much was known about Davidson beyond the viral video, Fromm claimed that, despite all evidence to the contrary, there was no hate, no crime, and most certainly no hate crime here. It was just "bad manners," and, of course, it is really our diverse society that's at fault.

But once people started digging in, things got really out of hand, starting with supposedly mainstream publications, like The National Post, that ran a headline quoting Michelle Rempel saying the attack was staged.

The article does condemn Davidson's actions, but the headline fans the conspiracy theory flames that this was a hoax. Others went much farther, including The Post Millennial who blamed the mainstream press for falling for an elaborate trick.

Ezra Levant jumped on the hoax bandwagon too, because of course he did. This is apparently what passes for "telling the other side of the story."

And then there is Faith Goldy's fan club, I.D. Canada. Apparently, we need to "wake up."

The articles, Tweets and posts promoting the hoax narrative were unrelenting. They were nauseating to read because they added another layer of insult to Rana's experience by claiming he was either to blame, or in on the conspiracy with Davidson.

The racist attack Rana experienced was very real, and I cannot imagine how seeing Tweets like Bexte's made him feel. Davidson will be back in court on September 12th. Here's hoping the discussion around this case will become more productive and compassionate soon.

Patrick Kuhn of Kelliher, Saskatchewan Arrested

So remember this past spring when Patrick Kuhn of Kelliher, Saskatchewan made the news for flying a Nazi flag (and the Stars and Bars of the Confederacy) outside the home he was living in? And remember how he was just described as someone as a kid who didn't grow up which minimized the damage he caused and infantalized him? Oh, and you remember that the police didn't investigate him, but DID investigate the FNMI man who took down the flag himself?

Well, funny story....

He's a keeper alright....

"Winnipeg Free Press" Journalist Uncovers Identity of Winnipeg Recruiter For Violent Hate Group

It has been hard to keep up with all the information coming out about the far-right in Canada and internationally, especially those related to the more underground and violent movements that have come into existence during the past few years. The tragedy in El Paso and the arrest of a man in Las Vegas who appears to have been planning a similar attack has made the danger posed by the far right much more clear.

The Las Vegas suspect, whose plans look to have been known of and perhaps assisted by the international members of the Atomwaffen-affiliated Feuerkrieg Division, also had a connection to a Barrie, ON man who was profiled on the blog. And earlier this month ARC and other groups became aware of another violent, and perhaps more dangerous, group in Canada:

The screen shot comes from the now deleted Gab profile for The Base, a secretive hate group that has been recruiting members in the United States, engaging in survivalist and combat training, and preparing to attack targets with the goal of helping to create conditions for a societal collapse from which their members and like minded individuals will emerge to create their vision of a whites only society. Those considered undesirable -- racial minorities, Jews, Muslims, LGBTQ -- as well as white who don't subscribe to the racist ideology and are thus deemed traitors, would be eliminated.

As journalists Mack Lamoureux and Ben Makuch noted in a Vice story published Friday morning The Base is also now active in Canada:

Those of us who keep an eye on hate groups were already aware that groups like The Base could be active in Canada and we had seen some indications of some level of paramilitary activity. It wasn't until the posters started showing up that it was confirmed however:

These posters started showing up in Winnipeg and Saskatchewan earlier this month. Myself and groups such as Yellow Vests Canada Exposed, FF1, and the Canadian Anti-Hate Network (among many others) have been trying to figure out who might be responsible. On Friday Ryan Thorpe of "The Winnipeg Free Press" published a story detailing how he was able to gain access to the group and learn the identity of the Winnipeg recruiter:

Online, he goes by the names Dave Arctorum and "coincidence detector" (a reference to a Google Chrome extension used by anti-Semites to identify Jewish-sounding names in news articles).
He said his real first name was Patrick and that he was 26 years old. He said he grew up in the countryside and at some point lived in Winnipeg, but now resides in Beausejour. He later said his father owned land near Lundar.....Recently, he’s begun putting up flyers that attempt to intimidate and threaten local anti-fascist activists.
He claimed to have joined the military out of high school, training as a combat engineer, but indicated he plans to leave the military soon because he feels he can no longer "serve the ZOG."....During his years in the military, he said he tried to turn other soldiers onto neo-Nazism and felt he had made progress with two individuals.
Patrick also revealed that in addition to his social-media accounts, which promote his political views, he set up multiple other accounts to spread misinformation among local anti-fascist activists.
At one point in the conversation, which lasted roughly an hour-and-a-half, he said in a well-ordered society such activists would be dragged out of their homes and "strung up." He also discussed plans to find the addresses and phone numbers of these people and post them publicly....."At this point it is the system that is fomenting armed (white nationalist) revolution, not us. We tried the peaceful route. The system closed it off at every turn. Now the system shall reap what it has sown. I’ll leave it at that," he wrote.
"At this point it is the system that is fomenting armed (white nationalist) revolution, not us. We tried the peaceful route. The system closed it off at every turn. Now the system shall reap what it has sown. I’ll leave it at that," he wrote.
While we don't know Patrick's first name, ARC and others did learn at least a few of Patrick's online identities including this one:
